● The circular tohu represents the sun noting Te Tairawhiti is first to see the sun.
● This tohu, also depicts our Worlds; linking the two syndicates as one; denoting
● a commitment by us to prepare our children for the unknowns of the future.
● A symbolic bird embraces all the manu which feature highly in local stories, embedded also in the name Manutuke. It could also depict our learner, Te Manu Tu Ke, the Manu that stands in its uniqueness.
● The black tipu, are symbolic of kumara vines, which represent intermarriage
● and whakapapa lines to our prodigy or children.
● The triangular shape is the original Logo of ‘Te Whanau Reo Maori’ Unit, used since 1989. It also represents all maunga, including Manawaru and Puketapu.
● The white line represents the river, Te Arai. (‘Water’ = sustains).
● The white tipu symbolises the sacred kumara of the revered ancestress, Hinehakirirangi. These held the mauri of the rohe, which presently needs to be nurtured and revitalised.
